Synopsis - short

On June 10th, 2023, a man embarks on a journey to run 138 kilometers on Quebec’s Road 138, wishing to honor his sister’s resilience facing cancer. This odyssey becomes a brother’s love letter to his sister in the language he knows best: running.

Synopsis - long

As a fifty year-old man with a knack for long-distance running, Gaston challenged himself to complete a 138 kilometer race on Quebec's iconic road 138 on June 10th 2023. By accomplishing this superhuman race, he wishes to honor his little sister Tatiana's bravery and resilience in a battle she fought - and won - against cancer when she was younger. Road 138 is a contemplative yet engaging documentary, exploring a brother's odyssey in expressing how much he feared losing his sister. For running is the language Gaston knows best and with which he aims to write Tatiana a love letter.

DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT

Road 138 is my way of telling Gaston and Tatiana's story with empathy, showing an aspect of the fight against cancer less often seen : the impact it has on the close family members and the fear of losing someone we love. I found that this feeling is profoundly nestled in this family and was ravived by Gaston's promise. I wished to make a film that, though centered on a running challenge and Gaston's determination to go through it, shows empathy towards Tatiana, allowing her to express her point of view. In the end, it's a story about a brother and a sister answering and supporting each other amidst life's challenges.
